Enrolling/Transferring - ACT Public Schools

Parents/carers are welcome to apply to enrol/transfer their son or daughter at any time during the school year using an online application form. Full details are available from the Education website.

Priority Enrolment Area (PEA)

Students who live in the suburbs of Macquarie, Cook and parts of Belconnen are automatically eligible for a place at Macquarie Primary School. For specific information about our Priority Enrolment Area you may wish to read the Education Directorate's Priority Placement Areas page. Siblings of current students who live in the ACT are also eligible for a place. Evidence showing your place of residence is required upon enrolment.

After students in these suburbs have been placed, consideration may be given to students residing elsewhere in the ACT, and then to students who live in NSW as per the ACT Education Directorate's Enrolment P-12 Policy.

Students who move into our Priority Placement Area during the year can be enrolled immediately. Please make contact with us as soon as you know you are moving into the area.

Non-Permanent Residents of Australia

Children who are not permanent residents of Australia are welcome to enrol at Macquarie Primary School. Their eligibility to attend a school in the ACT as a non-fee paying international student must first be clarified by the International Education Unit of the ACT Department of Education. A student's status as non-fee or fee paying is dependent upon their visa.

Parents/carers of non-permanent resident children should contact the International Education Unit on 02 6205 9176.

In the ACT children are eligible for a year of government preschool if they turn four before 30 April in that year. At Macquarie our preschool offers two sessions.

In the ACT children are eligible to move into Kindergarten or commence school in Kindergarten if they turn five before 30 April in that year.

The ACT Department of Health requires schools to collect information regarding each student's immunisation status. An Immunisation Record can be:

  • A child's "Blue Book", or
  • A statement from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register, or
  • A similar statement or record from other jurisdictions

For entry into Kindergarten we will collect the blue and yellow carbon pages from the "Blue Book", or retain a copy of the immunisation statement.

  • your child is not immunised, or
  • you have no record of such immunisation, or
  • you are not sure if he/she has been immunised

then a Statutory Declaration must be provided to the school. Non-immunised children will be excluded from school in the event of an outbreak of a disease that is preventable by immunisation.
